IRON MAIDEN's SONISPHERE Announcement Coming On Wednesday
December 7, 2009British heavy metal legends IRON MAIDEN are expected to announce on Wednesday, December 9 at 6:00 p.m. GMT that they will headline next year's edition of the U.K.'s Sonisphere festival, which will be held Saturday, July 31, 2010 and Sunday, August 1, 2010 at Knebworth.
More than 80,000 metal and rock fans attended the inaugural Sonisphere this year, with the camping festival headlined by METALLICA.
A statement on Sonisphere's web site reads: "It's official! Sonisphere 2010 will take place on July 31 and August 1. Thank you again everyone for coming to the first Sonisphere festival at Knebworth Park in August 2009. We are really excited to announce that the first steps are being made to map out our 2010 tour across Europe and with that we are pleased to confirm our U.K. dates. This time the party hits Knebworth on Saturday, July 31 and Sunday, August 1, 2010."
LINKIN PARK, LIMP BIZKIT, MACHINE HEAD, FEEDER, ALICE IN CHAINS, BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE, AVENGED SEVENFOLD, NINE INCH NAILS and HEAVEN & HELL all played Knebworth this year.
IRON MAIDEN guitarist Janick Gers revealed to BBC News last month that the band has already started writing songs for its 15th studio album. "We're going to Paris for three weeks to work on some new stuff," Gers said at the Classic Rock Roll Of Honour Awards 2009 on November 2 at the Park Lane Hotel in London, England. "The most important thing for a band is to create new music, otherwise you're not valid — you become a parody."
MAIDEN became the first outfit in history to travel round the world in a customized jet during their "Somewhere Back in Time" tour, as detailed in award-winning movie "Flight 666".
The Boeing 757 carried musicians, crew, gear and guests with singer Bruce Dickinson, a qualified airline pilot, at the controls.
